MEET THE CHEF
Head Chef, Nicolas Buyo, grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina and came to Europe at the age of 18 to progress in the industry and perfect his love for cooking. Travelling around Europe at an early age he grew to understand an eclectic mix of cooking styles, flavours and techniques all of which he has brought with him to Meat People. He explains that Spain was where he grew to be the chef he is today and although the South American influences are clear in his recipes, he always strives for a mix of sophistication in his ingredients and menus. He believes that simple, high quality ingredients cooked perfectly is the key to his culinary achievements.
THE FOOD
Start your dining experience with one of our delightful starters; perhaps our trademark Pork Belly, roasted slowly for five hours and served with a delicious mixed bean salad. For your main, choose between our succulent Grilled Rib Eye, naturally marbled Fillet, our famous Onglet Steak or the tender Iberico Pork Secreto. To accompany your main don’t forget our generous sides; French beans with garlic and shallots, asparagus with parmesan and soft egg, roasted courgettes with chilli and balsamic vinegar or our hand cut, double cooked, chunky chips.
THE WINE & COCKTAILS
We offer an interesting and unique selection of wines ranging form old world classics like the Barolos and Brunello’s to several new world quirky numbers. We have a passion for wine and believe in pairing the complex flavours of each bottle with each dish, so we are more than happy to make recommendations based on your food choices. Our 1930’s-esque bar area, built by hand from the reclaimed wood discovered in the venue whilst restoring it, serves up a range of classic cocktails from yester-year and exciting modern twists.

2012 – PRESENT : MEAT PEOPLE
Established in 1920 the venue was originally founded and run by the Deritis family who came to Britain at the turn of the century. Influenced by Italian America Alfredo’s caff was a place for the neighborhood to meet and discuss family and business. The famous bands of the 60’s frequented Alfredo’s for breakfast after a long gig in neighbouring Islington venues. Parts of Quadrophenia and Mojo were filmed here and the hand-built vitrolite ceilings and walls still remain today. S&M looked to contemporize the greasy spoon with red-topped 50s leatherette chairs, baby-blue Formica tables and a black linoleum floor.

WHO WE ARE
Meat People is a brand new concept of meat house situated at 4-6 Essex Road, on the corner of Islington Green. Inspired by the Art Deco Style of the venue, we have also managed to outline and implement the importance of the little elements, and decorative pieces in order to create the unique early 1900s atmosphere with a chic touch of glamour. The dimmed lighting and the classical Jazz and Swing music contribute to set the perfect mood, a feeling of comfort combined with joy and harmony.
We offer an alternative to chain restaurants by focusing on only the highest quality cuts of meat, reliably sourced from around the world.
The menu has proven to have inspired many people in the neighbourhood, turning the neighbours into regulars, and us into ‘their local’. Meat People has received many positive reviews from the media, but the one thing that means more to us than anything is the warm ‘thank you’ we hear from every person who walks out our door.
